Residential Accommodations

Transylvania University considers the communal living environment an integral component of a student’s college experience. With some exceptions, students are expected to live on campus and share their room. Part of the residential experience is dining. There are many meal plan options students can choose from. Please refer to the Student Handbook for more information. Students requesting exception to this policy based on reasons other than disability should contact the Office of Housing and Residence Life.

We understand that some students with medical or psychological conditions may require accommodations due to their disability. Students with disabilities requesting residential accommodations, like single rooms, should contact Lisa Ladanyi (lladanyi@transy.edu) to start the interactive process. While we recognize that a single room may benefit someone with a disability, the limited number of available spaces makes it necessary to consider each single room request carefully. Documentation by a licensed healthcare professional or therapist will be necessary to substantiate the accommodation request. It must show the nexus between the request and the management of the disability symptoms. The provider may use the Single Room Request Form, or, if other residential accommodations are requested, the Disability Verification Form. Other forms of legitimate documentation are accepted as long as they provide enough information to make an informed decision. Residential accommodations are generally granted for one academic year and updated documentation may be needed on a case-by-case basis for future requests. We recommend to start this process as soon as possible to allow Residence Life to make the necessary adjustments if needed.
