Weather update: University open on Wednesday, Jan. 8
Transylvania will be open on Wednesday with classes and events held as scheduled.
If students cannot make it to class because of the weather or travel concerns, they should make arrangements with their professor or participate virtually if available. If employees are not able to report to work, they should make arrangements with their supervisor.
While significant progress has been made in clearing snow and ice from campus, please exercise caution, as slick spots are likely. Facilities crews will continue to treat areas on both the residential and academic sides of campus. If there are areas you encounter that need attention, please consider submitting a facilities request.
Updates will be provided via campus message, social media, Inside Transy and at transy.edu/alerts.

Academics update: Date extended to add winter term classes
From the registrar’s office:
Please note that we recognize the remote start to the winter term is not the usual Transylvania class experience. Given this, we are extending the deadline for students to add classes for winter 2025 from Jan. 10 to Jan. 14 at 5 p.m. This will give students one additional class meeting (for both MWF and TTh classes) to decide if their classes are the the best fit for them this term. Students must be registered by 5 p.m. on Jan. 14 for the winter 2025 term. Tuition charges will become final at that time. Schedule changes should be made via the Self-Service portal.

Remote classes extended to Tuesday, Jan. 7
In the more than 24 hours that facilities crews have been on call to respond to snow and ice on campus, progress has been made in treating sidewalks, stairs and entrance ways and clearing parking lots. However, with snowfall expected through the afternoon and a continued drop in temperatures, additional work is needed to ensure safe conditions on campus.
All Transylvania University classes will be remote on Tuesday, Jan. 7. Students are asked to monitor your email for communication from faculty regarding your classes and labs.
Employees who can work remotely are encouraged to do so. Essential personnel should report as scheduled and check with their supervisors for any adjustments.
We are also aware of ongoing internet issues on campus, including slow loading times and difficulties with videoconferencing. Our Information Technology Services team is working with our service provider to address the issue. As of 3 p.m., most connectivity has been restored. Thank you for your continued patience as we continue to monitor the situation.
The Great Hall will open tomorrow at 10 a.m. for food service. Gratz Perk will continue to be closed on Tuesday, and there is no late night dining.
All students, faculty and staff are asked to monitor transy.edu/alerts for updates throughout the day. Updates will also be provided via campus message, social media, Inside Transy and the transy.edu website.

Campus update: Caution advised as winter storm impacts campus
Facilities crews have been working since Sunday afternoon to address the winter storm conditions. While navigating campus is possible, conditions are not ideal, and extreme caution is urged. Overnight, crews prioritized residential areas followed by the academic side of campus. Due to dropping temperatures and a transition to freezing rain, snow removal efforts have shifted to ice melt application. Parking lots are slippery. This morning crews are prioritizing sidewalks, steps and building entrances.
A second round of snow is expected around noon, and plans will be adjusted accordingly.
The university is currently experiencing slower than normal internet speeds, due in part to weather disruptions. Our service provider is working on the issue and expects it to be resolved in a timely manner. Thank you for your patience.
- The Great Hall will open Monday at 10 a.m. with as many stations as possible — Bon Appétit will expand offerings as staff members safely arrive on campus.
- Gratz Perk will be closed for the day.
- The Transylvania University Bookstore will be closed Monday.
- The library will be closed on Monday.
- The Fitness Center will be closed Monday.
