Recommended Sequence of Courses for Middle Grades Education (5-9 Certification) Major 

NOTE: To be eligible for any type of certification in the state of Kentucky in education, students must meet the GPA requirement and meet the required scores for a test of basic skills in math, reading, and writing.  Transylvania University has not determined whether the Education program curriculum meets the educational requirements for certification or licensure in other states.

First Year

Note:

Middle Grades Education majors are required to take PSY 1004 General Psychology, which can be used in the GE requirement for Social Sciences and must also complete allied courses related to the disciplines in which they intend to teach (Emphasis Area Courses). These allied courses can sometimes be used for GE Distribution requirements. See an Education program adviser for a list of appropriate courses. For an emphasis in Middle Grades Mathematics, students must take EDU 3104 as part of their math concentration.
