[MUSIC]

Hi. My name is Em Spencer, and I’m a champion.

Transy is definitely a campus that values hard work. Our Division III athletics operate at such a high level of quality not only because they push us athletically, but they care about us as people as well and they want us to succeed in the classroom and outside of the classroom.

I have definitely found a home with the golf team here at Transy. They were my first group of friends that I made when I came here. We kind of found that home in each other. And we’ve grown closer ever since because we travel a lot as a team anywhere from just down the street to U Club for our home tournament to Orlando, Florida for the NCAA previews.

Being a student athlete to me means that obviously student does come first. I think athletics for me provides an outlet. I’ve always loved golf and I love to compete and being a student athlete at the Division III institution allows me to do both.

I have really really enjoyed kind of getting out of my comfort zone and joining so many different organizations and institutions at Transy because it just really allows me to showcase different aspects of my personality and to get to know different kinds of people as well. Choir has been a home for me at Transy because it was something that I found a lot of sanctuary in in high school. And so coming to Transy and finding that same community here has been really comforting.

When I was deciding what college I wanted to come to, I knew that I wanted to continue music in some form, but a lot of the schools I was looking at required a more rigorous you know, commitment to the music program. But with Transy, I’ve been able to be involved as much as I want to be without being overextended.

So, Transy has been amazing in the fact that the liberal arts curriculum has allowed me to truly explore all of my options. I’ve been able to study something that I’m passionate about is the most important thing. I’m really excited to take the classes that I’ve taken at Transy, whether that be art history courses or an intro to philosophy course or, you know, a religion course that I’ve taken. Taking all of those things that I’ve learned in those classes and being able to continue that in the outside world, whether that be a graduate school or as a curator of a museum or even a professor.
