Steel structure of new Transylvania Campus Center nearly complete

People traveling along North Broadway are getting a glimpse of what our new Campus Center will look like now that most of the steel frame is in place. Once work on the steel structure wraps up on the $29.6 million facility, the most notable progress that passersby will notice is the construction of exterior walls. Workers recently poured concrete for the basement floor and have started the slab on the first floor. They’ve also finished the basement walls, and an excavation company is backfilling around them. Additionally, the existing William T. Young Campus Center is being renovated as part of the project; workers are currently demolishing and rebuilding some of the interior. The new, 97,710-square-foot Campus Center will have 61,400 square feet of new construction and 36,310 square feet of space renovated from the old building. The facility, which is expected to open in the fall of 2020, will include event spaces for the Transylvania community and outside groups, a fitness center, classrooms and dining areas like the Great Hall, which will seat up to 450 and remain open 24/7 as a place for students to gather. Keep track of our progress with the construction cam.
