Transylvania University pre-health students ventured beyond their classrooms and labs this week to learn about real-world opportunities.
LEXINGTON, Ky.—Transylvania University has launched two partnerships with the University of Kentucky that give students an inside track to graduate school at the College of Pharmacy and the College of Medicine-Northern Kentucky Campus. Transylvania’s Early Assurance Program partnership with the University of Kentucky College of Medicine-Northern Kentucky Campus reserves spots for Transylvania pre-med students at the new northern Kentucky campus. Up to three students will receive assured admission to the College of Medicine-Northern Kentucky Campus upon graduation from Transylvania (pending completion of all requirements). Candidates will apply with and be selected by a Transylvania committee for review by the UK College of Medicine. One Transy student has already been accepted to the Northern Kentucky campus through the partnership. The Early Assurance Program will also grant students enrichment experiences while at Transylvania. Activities include exposure to hospital and office practice; shadowing and mentoring experiences with physicians; academic advising at Transy; targeted research, seminar and course experiences; MCAT preparation; and a one-week boot camp in northern Kentucky. “These are incredible opportunities for our students to receive Transylvania’s top-ranked liberal arts experience, coupled with a direct pathway to graduate education in medicine and pharmacy,” said Vice President and Dean of the University Laura Bryan. “They will enjoy the benefits of one-on-one interactions with faculty and personal attention at Transy along with the resources of a research-intensive University of Kentucky.” Transylvania’s pre-med graduates have historically shown great success—approximately 90 percent of students Transy has
