Transylvania encourages students to fill out free FAFSA online

Filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year is the most important step toward receiving federal aid funds (loans, grants and work-study) and aid directly from Transylvania University. No matter what your family’s income is, you can fill out this free online form at absolutely no cost.

Students who submit a FAFSA are eligible for low-interest federal student loans if they need them. It’s also the first step to be considered for a federal parent PLUS loan, which can help pay for college costs. Nearly everyone who applies to Transylvania and fills out the FAFSA gets some kind of financial aid, with an average package of about $34,000 per year.

“Financial aid is a conversation, not a barrier,” says Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management Erin Craig. “The FAFSA starts that conversation with private colleges, allowing them to understand your unique circumstances and offer personalized support. Don’t leave money on the table – file the FAFSA today.”

In line with its mission to provide a high-quality liberal arts education that’s an excellent value, Transylvania works hard to make sure that families from all walks of life can afford to take advantage of this experience. The Pioneer Pledge offers an option to lock in your tuition rate and assures you can graduate in four years and enter the workforce sooner. These initiatives contribute to Transylvania’s consistent ranking as one of the best values in higher education. Transylvania also offers The Pell Guarantee, which ensures that full tuition and fees will be covered for Pell Grant‑eligible students who graduate from Kentucky high schools through a combination of institutional, federal and state grants/scholarships.

To start your application, have Transylvania’s school code (001987) ready and then visit fafsa.gov to create your unique FSA ID. Once you are accepted to Transylvania and the school receives your FAFSA information, you will receive a detailed financial aid offer from the university, outlining all the scholarships, grants, loans and work-study opportunities available to you.

“The FAFSA isn’t just a form; it’s an opportunity, especially at Transylvania,” says Craig. “As a small, student-focused institution, we’re committed to your success throughout your four years. Filing the FAFSA is your first step toward discovering the generous financial aid packages we offer, and it’s a commitment you’ll renew each year you’re here. Investing a few hours now, each year, can open doors to a transformative Transylvania experience and a lifetime of possibilities.”
