Transforming lives through year-end giving: A business major with big dreams

While 2024 is winding down, the impact of donor generosity continues to shape the lives of Transylvania University students. Consider the story of Luke Patton ’26. His journey, fueled by the support of Transylvania Fund donors, is a testament to the power of giving. This holiday season, you have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of countless young people like him.

Patton, a business finance major and baseball player at Transylvania, is an example of how donor support can shape a scholarship recipient’s college experience. He is making the most of the resources available to him at Transy, thanks in large part to the scholarships and funding provided by donors.

Patton has also taken full advantage of Transylvania’s liberal arts-focused education. Beyond his business courses, he’s enrolled in interdisciplinary classes like Chemistry and Society, which have challenged him to think in new ways. The small class sizes and close relationships with faculty members have had a profound impact on his academic journey.

“I can’t do it all on my own,” Patton said. “Having donors and support behind me really makes a huge difference in helping me stay on track. People might say I’m doing the heavy lifting, but honestly, I don’t think I am. I’m just showing up and doing what I’m supposed to do. But without the people supporting me, none of this would be possible.”

He is grateful for the support that has allowed him to pursue his goals, and he looks forward to one day giving back to Transylvania to help future generations of students.

Your support makes a difference

He is just one example of how donor support is changing the lives of Transylvania students. Each gift to The Transylvania Fund plays a vital role in shaping the future of our students, expanding their access to opportunities and supporting their growth as leaders, thinkers and innovators.

“Working on campus, I see what donor generosity means to all Transylvania students as they work hard to pursue their dreams,” said Kara Little Covert ‘90, vice president for advancement.
