David and Martin Howley, founding members of the Billboard No. 1 band We Banjo 3, are bringing their indie folk music to Transylvania University on Saturday.
Reserve tickets for the up-close performance at 7 p.m. in Carrick Theater.
“I am very excited to come to Lexington,” said David Howley, who recently announced his brother Martin would be joining him as a guest for the show. “It’ll be a night of folk music, Irish music, bad jokes and some dancing.”
He will perform his new song “Shadow” released Oct. 18.
David Howley’s music is billed as featuring “soulful vocals, evocative storytelling and enchanting melodies. He weaves a sonic tapestry of timeless allure. Inspired by ancient legends and raw emotions, Howley’s music captures the essence of tradition with a modern twist.”
The Howley brothers from Galway, Ireland, have performed with renowned artists including the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Béla Fleck and Eileen Ivers, who played at Transylvania in 2015.
We Banjo 3 performed together for a decade before announcing they’re taking a break to focus on individual projects. Howley’s tour brings him to Lexington for the first time as a solo artist.
Saturday’s show is part of the Mitchell Fine Arts Center’s inaugural professional performing arts season. Upcoming performances include Uniting Voices Lexington’s Winter Festival of Song on Dec. 15, the Grand Kyiv Ballet’s “Swan Lake” on Feb. 8 and an American Spiritual Ensemble concert March 22.
