Transylvania University ranks among the nation’s top schools in The Princeton Review’s “Best 390 Colleges” guide released today.

The 2025 edition spotlights Transylvania’s excellence in academics and supportive community, along with the perks of being in Lexington and more. The school also made the Best South and Lots of Greek Life (No. 9) lists.

“The colleges we profile in our book are truly a select group: They constitute about 15% of America’s four-year institutions. We chose them primarily based on our high opinion of their academic offerings,” said Rob Franek, editor-in-chief of the The Princeton Review and lead author of the guide.

Students surveyed for “390 Best Colleges” noted some benefits of attending Transylvania, including the wide range of courses offered, near-certain acceptance to professional schools and professors who require deep, critical thinking.

In the spirit of this commitment to outstanding academics, the school announced a $25 million grant earlier this year to fund up to 12 Bingham Endowed Chairs for Teaching Excellence at Transylvania (check out the first three).

As for college life, students highlighted the numerous campus organizations, local internships and fun places downtown they can walk to. “All in all, there’s ‘so much to do, and there’s always something new to discover,’” according to the guide.

The Pioneers quoted in “Best 390 Colleges” also mentioned that their classmates are welcoming, creative and accepting. “Of course, the best aspect of Transy’s student body is the fact that ‘anywhere you go you can always find a friend or at least some people that are easy to talk to.’”
