Four Transylvania alumni have stepped up to ensure the university finishes out its giving year in the strongest of ways. Between now and June 30, gifts made to the Transylvania Annual Fund will be matched dollar for dollar up to $50,000, thanks to a challenge from Betsy Brooks Bulleit ’76, Kim Siebers Cornetet ’81 and Mac ‘92 and Jessica Lagrew Thompson ’94.
“The Transylvania Annual Fund is what traditionally we have referenced as ‘greatest institutional needs’ support,” said Kara Little Covert ’90, vice president for advancement. “Donors to this area supply flexibility, which remains necessary for any organization to thrive. If you think about it from a personal budgetary standpoint, the Annual Fund operates like your checking account. Just as you gauge what can be spent on both needs and wants as you move from month to month, you budget for urgent emergencies as well.”
The Annual Fund can cover a range of unexpected expenses — from a malfunctioning HVAC unit to journal subscriptions for students and faculty to higher-than-expected use of the food pantry. “And, of course, the larger the Annual Fund total is in any year, the more student scholarships can be awarded to future Pioneers,” Covert added.
The June 30 Annual Fund Challenge doubles the impact of any gift made to Transylvania by that date, the end of the university’s fiscal and giving year. “Our challenge donors have all been active supporters of our alma mater for decades,” Covert said. “They understand what their generosity to the Annual Fund means for Transy’s continued success, and they are working with our office to ensure the rest of the university family learns of its importance. We are grateful to them and to all who take advantage of their challenge match over the next week.”
To participate, your check must be made out to the Transylvania Annual Fund, postmarked by June 29 and mailed to the Transylvania Office of Alumni and Development, 300 N. Broadway, Lexington, KY, 40508. Easy online giving is available here through midnight Eastern time, June 30. For questions, call the development office at 859-233-8275 or email giving@transy.edu.
