Two Transylvania University graduates are hosting a wine tasting and tours of their new Ghost Fox Winery for fellow alumni Friday.

Mallory Harlow Morris ’09 and Josh Morris ’09 recently opened the business in Nicholasville at the site of the old Chrisman Mill Vineyards & Winery. RSVP and get details on the event, which runs 6-9 p.m. and includes three signature wines paired with charcuterie delectables (guests can come and go whenever).

The Morrises will be sharing a dream they’ve been planning for years.

“We always wanted to own a winery,” Mallory Morris said. The chemistry major got interested in the beverage at Transylvania when she took a May term class trip through European wine country with professor emeritus Jerry Seebach (who’s been a “huge support” and taught her a lot).

Mallory and Josh Morris, who’ve both worked for wineries in the past, first launched Ghost Fox with a small production area in Versailles but moved to the current location after falling in love with the property last summer.

While they’ve been importing grapes from other farms — they’ll pick the first harvest of their own from the new vineyard this fall.

The fact that Mallory Morris has a chemistry major benefits the production process, which is highly controlled. It’s this kind of attention to detail that makes their wines stand out, she said.

Their fellow Pioneers get to taste for themselves Friday as they partner with the school’s alumni and development office.

“Transy is where our love for wine really started,” Morris said. “We’re excited to open our doors and let everyone in.”

The tasting room is open to the public Saturdays from noon to 8 p.m. Visit Ghost Fox’s website to learn more, and check out this Fox 56 feature:
