Transylvania University today announced the creation of the Jennifer A. Moore Endowed Scholarship Fund, a life-changing opportunity for incoming students beginning in fall 2025. The scholarship is funded via a $1.25 million gift from alumna Jennifer A. Moore ’95, a prominent Kentucky attorney and community leader.
“It is my honor to contribute to the future of promising students at Transylvania University,” said Moore. “Transy empowered me with a remarkable education that expanded my horizons and set my path to success. I am committed to supporting the next generation of students with the hope they will utilize the skill sets from Transy to make our community and world a better place.”
The Jennifer A. Moore Scholarship will be awarded annually to a deserving incoming student with exceptional academic achievement and a commitment to public service. The scholarship will cover the entirety of a student’s educational expenses, including tuition, room, board and fees.
“We are deeply grateful for Jennifer A. Moore’s extraordinary generosity,” said Transylvania President Brien Lewis. “We are confident that the recipients — our Jennifer A. Moore Scholars – will not only have a profound impact on the campus, but the scholarship will allow us to attract the brightest minds from across the nation who will become leaders in their professions and communities.”
Moore graduated magna cum laude from Transylvania with a B.A. in political science in 1995. She received her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Kentucky in 1998. Following graduation, she received a prestigious federal court clerkship with the late Boyce F. Martin Jr., former chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. After a brief stint practicing law in California, the seventh-generation Kentuckian returned to the Commonwealth and soon opened her own law practice.
One of the few women-owned law firms in the country 100% devoted to representing injured individuals, Moore founded a Louisville-based law firm. Through Moore Law Group PLLC, she is a tireless advocate for justice and has secured billions of dollars in compensation for clients injured because of harmful products, pharmaceutical drugs, medical devices, medical negligence, nursing home neglect and abuse, and automobile and truck wrecks.
In addition to her legal career, Moore is a dedicated public servant. She is the founder of Emerge Kentucky, a nonprofit that trains women to run for office. Emerge has trained more than 300 women, with nearly 50 currently serving in office, from the lieutenant governor to members of the General Assembly to countywide elected officials.
Always a proud Transylvania graduate, Moore is creating this scholarship fund to assist promising students who have demonstrated strong academic achievement and leadership potential. She remembers vividly leaving Paducah, Kentucky, at the young age of 17 to attend Transylvania and the incredible opportunities her Transy education provided.
“My hope is that a scholarship at this level will open the world of a liberal arts higher education to others and have a positive impact on Transylvania’s ability to recruit the best and brightest students from all over our country and especially right here in Kentucky, ultimately serving to enhance the school’s academic reputation and inspiring other alumni to contribute in ways that are meaningful to them,” Moore said.
