Celebrated woodwind specialist Ronnal Ford is performing new music in Transylvania University’s Delcamp Concert on Jan. 28.
The public is invited to the free performance at 7 p.m. in Carrick Theater. Also during his visit, Ford will work with the orchestra and band and give master classes for music students.
“I’ve had the privilege of being Ron’s colleague, and I know he is a gifted performer on so many instruments — and an equally gifted teacher,” music professor Lawrence Spell said. “Our students will gain much from his concert and master classes.”
Ford plays a variety of instruments — from oboe to violin to bassoon — and arranges music for various ensembles.
Now teaching at North Carolina A&T State University and Guilford Technical Community College, Ford has also led performance and theory classes at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Winston-Salem State University and Forsyth Technical Community College.
Ford earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the North Carolina School of the Arts.
“He also serves his community by giving clinics at local schools, where he helps improve the woodwind sections and talks about his music career with the students,” according to his bio. “He has played a vital role in shaping the next generation of musicians and music educators.”
