Transylvania University invites the public to do some holiday shopping while supporting campus entrepreneurs at Friday’s third annual Makers Market.
Members of the school community are selling their arts, crafts and other creations from noon to 5 p.m. in the Campus Center.
“We are excited to once again host the Makers Market featuring a record number of student, faculty and staff small businesses,” said Kaelyn Query Caldwell, acting director of the Center for Entrepreneurship. “We have over 40 ‘shops’ registered with a wide assortment of items. This is a great opportunity to support local makers and the Transy community — and take care of all your holiday shopping in one trip.”
Items for sale this year range from jewelry to paintings to wood carvings to crocheted pillows.
The Center for Entrepreneurship, housed in the newly renovated Sanders-Siebers Entrepreneurship Hub, is presenting the market in partnership with Transylvania’s Morlan Gallery. The event provides students of any major with lessons in business, as well as extra money for the holidays.
Nicole Herman ’25 will have been a vendor at all three Makers Markets after Friday. The exercise science major from Lexington is branching out this year with a new product: She and her fiancé collaborated to make custom, tufted rugs.
Herman, who previously sold miniature paintings on magnets, pointed out how networking is another benefit of being a vendor.
“Getting your name and artwork out there matters — you never know who might end up working with you in the future,” she said.
