The patio behind Transylvania University’s Campus Center is a great place to hang out — literally.
Posts for eight hammocks were recently installed to give students an enjoyable way to relax and recharge while getting some fresh air and sunshine. Hammocks are available for checkout in the Game Room.
Ryan Benjamin, director of Campus Center and event services, said the project expands areas for student engagement — which are plentiful inside — to the outdoors. “We want students to feel at home in the building and on campus,” he said. The Hammock Haven can also be tied into other events in Back Circle, like a recent movie night.
“Hammocks are a great way to do homework, socialize and be connected to a community full of vibrant, inspiring and amazing opportunities,” student Quincy Elliott said. “Since the installment of the hammocks, I have spent many hours relaxing and ‘hanging’ out with my friends and enjoying the beautiful campus we have.”
Fellow Pioneer Makalya Jordan said they’re an “exciting addition” to campus. “I love being outside and am so excited to be able to enjoy the fall weather in the hammocks.”
Student Alex Perry is also a fan. “Especially with the stress of academics, the hammocks are a great way to escape and relax,” she said. “These hammocks have given my mental health a much needed break as I am able to unwind and decompress.”
