Transylvania University graduate Seth Wyatt ’21 has been supporting the economic development of a rural community in his home state of Arkansas while attending the Clinton School of Public Service.
The school recently featured its new alumnus for his capstone project analyzing demographics to attract retail businesses to the town of Warren.
Transylvania helped foster Wyatt’s dedication to making a difference. As an undergraduate, he majored in philosophy, minored in religion and served as president of the Interfaith Alliance. “Transy is fertile soil for people who really want to make an impact and do something about the problems they see — whether on campus or off,” he said for a previous 1780 blog story.
At the Clinton School, where students earn a Master of Public Service through hands-on projects, Wyatt could continue this passion for community engagement among others of like mind. The school is part of the University of Arkansas system.
“Everybody sitting next to you in class cares about the community in the same way that you do,” the Cabot native said.
He found it rewarding to use data to figure out a plan to help foster prosperity in a rural area. “It’s been an amazing experience,” he said.
Wyatt also completed an international public service project with the Syrian Emergency Task Force, which is a nonprofit supporting refugees, and attended the Oslo Freedom Forum in Norway.
