Transylvania University’s NCAA Division III women’s basketball national champions face Division I Eastern Kentucky University in an exhibition game Nov. 2 in Richmond.
It’s a matchup between Transylvania’s two head coaches over the past 17 years: Greg Todd, who led the Pioneers from 2006-14, and current coach Juli Fulks.
Reserve tickets to the preseason game, which starts at 7 p.m. and is part of EKU’s annual Fan Day at Baptist Health Arena.
“We are excited for the opportunity to play an exhibition game versus EKU,” Fulks said. “Our team consists of many returners from last year’s national championship group, and this allows an early challenge to measure our preseason progress. Additionally, this game is an exciting night for our recent alumni to come and see both coaching staffs who they played for while at Transy.”
Her Pioneers are also receiving their national championship rings during a home volleyball game Sept. 27.
Transylvania won the DIII crown April 1, capping off a 33-0 season. They’re 60-1 over the past two seasons.
“It is an honor and very rare feat to host a defending national champion in Transylvania University,” Todd said. “We are expecting a large crowd for both teams and a great atmosphere for an exhibition game. Transylvania is a very special place, and I am very thankful for the opportunity they gave me for my first head college coaching position. We can’t wait to interact with our community on Fan Day as we host such a good program at Baptist Health Arena.”
The EKU Colonels finished 18-14 last season, reaching the Atlantic Sun Conference quarterfinals.
