Transylvania University occasionally shows up in a “Jeopardy!” answer.
Now it’s on a Monopoly board.
The school joins other well-known sites around town as properties in MONOPOLY: Lexington Edition, which was unveiled this morning at Keeneland. Sanctioned by Hasbro, the Top Trumps USA game is available in retail stores, including the Transylvania bookstore, and online.
“What an honor for Lexington to have its own Monopoly game spotlighting so many of our favorite places,” Mayor Linda Gorton said. “This is a great way to celebrate our hometown.”
The game’s box and board feature thoroughbred farms and racing as well as the Lexington skyline. This, along with the individual properties, gives players a feel for what the city is like.
“Within this game, you will see why it’s a mecca for artists, athletes, intellectuals and foodies, and holds a vibrant and unique culture that’s been centuries in the making,” according to Top Trumps USA. “It also features customized Community Chest and Chance playing cards to ensure the board is a historic and enduring tribute to one of the most popular destinations in the central U.S.”
Besides Transylvania, featured cultural sites, nonprofits and businesses include the Arboretum, Habitat for Humanity, VisitLex, Talon Winery and Carnegie Center for Literacy & Learning.
