For any first-year student, there’s a world of change when you begin your college journey. Finding new friends, juggling classes and activities, adjusting to living on your own are just some of the challenges most students face.
For one first-year student, Dakota Capps, those worries took a back seat over fall break when the Clarksville, Indiana, resident tragically lost his mother and sole caregiver, Lori. Capps and his brother Morgan, a high school senior, are sorting through what comes next with the help of classmates, friends and family.
Since his return to campus, Capps has seen his Transy community come together for him.
“Transylvania is my home and the people here are like my family. I really appreciate all of the love and support I’ve received during hard times,” Capps said.
A family friend has started a GoFundMe to assist the Capps brothers.
Capps is taking things one day at a time and says that the support of the Transy community helps. “It really keeps me motivated to do better everyday,” he added.
