Transylvania University students got an opportunity to show off their skills earlier this month during a “Transy’s Got Talent” online competition hosted by the Student Government Association.
SGA President Summer Taylor was excited for the opportunity to spotlight talented students while keeping things safe during the pandemic. ”Our submissions showed that Transy has artists, musicians, quilters and TikTokers,” Taylor says. “There is definitely not a lack of talent and skill at Transylvania University.”
First place went to Jordan Strouse for a marimba rendition of “Lost Woods” from the video game “The Legend of Zelda.” The senior is an international affairs major from Lexington.
“Transy’s Got Talent was proposed by first-year senator Emma Spencer. And with the help of Olivia Greinke, who’s the public relations chair, Taylor says SGA was able to bring this event to life and showcase how to engage the student body in a fun way.
Submissions that won were those that received the most likes after being posted on the SGA Instagram account.
More 3,000 likes were received across all submissions (prizes included an iPad, record player and Bluetooth speaker).
Other winners were: second place, Ryan Wood ’22 for a TikTok video; and Mary Grace Welch ’24 for a drawing of a cat.
“I’m so proud of this event and hope to see it continue in the future,” Taylor said.
