Transylvania believes that creativity is vital to the college experience. It gives every student the opportunity to participate in its fine arts activities, whether it’s plays, instrumental ensembles, choral groups, literary journals or art shows.
But Transy also takes it a step further, offering scholarships to students for their talents in the arts, often regardless of their major. The deadline to apply to Transy and be considered for a fine arts scholarship is Jan. 6, 2021.
Our fine arts scholarships range from $1,000-$3,000 and can be combined with other academic scholarship awards. They are available in music, theater, creative writing, visual art and art history. Unless noted otherwise, they are available to students of any major or minor, provided they take certain classes and remain involved in the corresponding performance ensembles.
“The beauty of our arts scholarships is a student can get paid to do what they love while majoring in a completely different field,” says Regan MacNay, director of choral activities. “It reflects the liberal arts goal of producing well-rounded, vital adults who become integral members of communities via the arts, sciences, business and law.”
That spirit of inspiring creativity while providing a broad education and job-ready skills is what sets Transylvania’s education apart from so many other schools. It encourages deep thinking and problem solving abilities that make Pioneers stand out wherever their careers and academic interests take them. The professors in all disciplines are experts in their fields and believe in the power of artistic expression along with academic excellence.
“The Transy fine arts staff is truly here to develop you as an artist and an individual,” says J.D. Lovell ’20, a theater and accounting double major who has participated in band, choir and theater. “The fine arts programs support each other and are truly devoted to the beauty of making art, regardless of what it takes. That’s the kind of devotion I wanted and needed as a young artist.”
