Dear Transylvania Community,
This week in Kentucky we are starting to see the first plans for the phased reopening of industry and businesses across the commonwealth. President-Designate Lewis and I are working closely with our team at Transylvania, as well as other college presidents throughout Kentucky, to develop our plans for a fall reopening of the campus while meeting public health directives.
As I mentioned in my April 24 message, we very much want to return to campus this August and resume the individualized, personal instruction for which Transylvania is known. We have been working diligently with administrators, faculty and staff to consider multiple scenarios for how we can meet the public health requirements set forth by the state and still deliver the highest quality instruction and support for our students safely.
In order to give the team charting our path forward the time they need to develop the best plan for fall 2020, we are rescheduling class registration, which is slated to open on Monday, May 4. Students will be advised on when registration will open as soon as we are able to do so, and they will be given additional opportunities to connect and communicate with their academic advisers once plans for the fall are determined.
I will continue discussions next week with our division chairs, the academic dean and President-Designate Lewis on our 2020-21 academic calendar. Our goal is to find a flexible solution that enables us to respond effectively as scenarios change over the coming weeks and months, as well as adapt quickly in order to maximize the potential for face-to-face instruction.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we face these challenges together.
Be well.
Dr. John N. WIlliams ’74
