On Friday afternoon, Mar. 6, Kentucky’s governor announced a confirmed case of COVID-19, the novel coronavirus, in Lexington. While both the governor and Lexington’s mayor have declared states of emergency to open access to additional federal resources, state health officials say Kentuckians are at a very low risk of contracting the virus.
Transylvania’s spring break begins Mar. 6 and most students and faculty will not be back on campus until Mar. 15 and 16. Transylvania is working closely with the mayor’s office, community leaders and stakeholders to coordinate efforts to respond to COVID-19. Our Transylvania working group will review the steps necessary to respond to any possible health situation that may impact the university.
We will continue to monitor the situation and will provide further information to the community via email and publicly at transy.edu/health-alert. For more information on the COVID-19 novel coronavirus, visit the Centers for Disease Control at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/index.html. Information is also available from the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department.
