Getting up before dawn on a Monday to run might not sound fun to some people, but they probably weren’t at Transylvania University this morning—when the school welcomed dozens of participants in the Alltech Ideas Conference (One19) for the One19 Fun Run.
Alltech, a global agricultural products company based in Nicholasville, has held the event on Transy’s campus for at least the past decade. Participants hail from countries around the world—from Australia to Ireland.
Before this year’s race started, runners snapped selfies in front of the iconic Old Morrison administration building and warmed up under the guidance a professional trainer. Then, during the 3K course around campus, they took a detour into our Mitchell Fine Arts lot to brighten up with a powdering of colors.
This was the first Fun Run for longtime Alltech employee Paul Kilgallen, who works in Mexico but is from Ireland. He said he enjoyed the camaraderie of the event. “It was absolutely fantastic.”
Mark Lyons, Alltech’s president and CEO and member of Transylvania’s Board of Trustees, also participated in the Fun Run. “We’ve really enjoyed it over a number of years, and it was great this year to kind of take it up a notch,” he said. “One of the best things about this event is that we’re holding it right in downtown Lexington, and of course Transylvania is a big part of that.”
Lyons also noted the importance of education to the company and how Transylvania impacts the educational landscape of Lexington. “It’s a really nice partnership,” he said.
