Transylvania University’s Pride Week celebration aims to strengthen community and reinforce a sense of belonging for all students.
The week of activities will conclude Wednesday evening with a Community Workshop from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Campus Center Gym and a keynote speech by educator and artist Yoleidy Rosario, whose programs address important social justice issues, at 7 p.m. in the Carpenter Academic Center, Room 005.
Other Transylvania Pride Week events have included a Pride Display in the library, Pride Bingo for students to learn about LGBTQ+ activists and humanitarians, tie-dye shirt making and a community open forum for students to share ideas about maintaining community and what is necessary for them to feel like they belong.
“The Offices of Diversity and Inclusion and Campus and Community Engagement see the value of dialogue and listening to student voices and experiences at Transy,” said Te’Asia Martin, assistant director of diversity and campus engagement. “As we move forward and continue programming for the campus, student dialogue and feedback will continue to fuel the initiatives and educational resources we offer to campus.”
Also participating in Pride Week is TUnity, which supports LGBTQ+ students.
