Behind the construction fence on North Broadway, progress is being made on Transylvania University’s new Campus Center.
Over the next two weeks, work on setting the piers for the new building will commence, with drilling rigs and concrete trucks expected on site. Passers-by and the campus community will also notice increased activity on the corner of Fourth and Broadway as the piers for the new campus bookstore are drilled.
“The site has been cleared and we’re ready to start digging the basement and constructing the supports,” said Marc Mathews, vice president for finance and business. “Thanks to the good weather, we’re slightly ahead of schedule and are moving forward.”

Construction on the $30 million Campus Center began earlier this year following the demolition of Forrer Hall. The new 97,710-square-foot building, which includes new construction and renovated space, will feature event spaces for campus and outside groups, classrooms and dining facilities including the Great Hall, which will seat up to 450 and remain open 24/7 as a place for students to gather.
The new Campus Center is expected to open in September 2020. Check out the renderings, daily progress and get more details here.
