Transylvania University President Seamus Carey on Wednesday announced that Professor of Political Science Michael Cairo has accepted the position of interim Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the University.
For the past three years, Cairo has served the university as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
“Dr. Cairo’s experience on the faculty and in the dean’s office has provided the preparation required to successfully serve in this role,” Carey said.
Cairo will be filling the position held by Laura Bryan since July 2015. She will begin as the T.G. Lewis Faculty Scholar in Organizational Behavior at the University of Kentucky in March, a position that returns her to the classroom.
“I wish Dean Bryan success and happiness in her new position, and have enjoyed working with her,” Cairo said. “I look forward to serving the Transylvania community during this transition.”
He will begin his new role Feb. 16.
Transylvania has begun a national search for a permanent vice president and dean with the goal of filling the position before the start of the 2019-20 academic year.
