In the final week before this year’s general election, Transylvania University will serve as the site for a televised forum with mayoral candidates Ronnie Bastin and Linda Gorton. The forum is hosted by the League of Women Voters of Lexington, WKYT, the Lexington Herald-Leader, WLAP radio and Transy.
The forum will be Monday, Oct. 29 from 6-7 p.m. in Carrick Theater. It will air live on The CW Lexington and will be live streamed on WKYT.com and Kentucky.com.
Bill Bryant, WKYT anchor and political editor, will moderate the forum, which is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and close at 5:45 p.m. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
“There is no substitute for seeing the candidates side-by-side and face-to-face as a way to compare their stands and styles of leadership,” said Bryant. “Our forum just a week before the election will give voters a chance to finalize their decisions about who will lead Lexington into the future.”
“Transylvania has been an integral part of our community and its civic discussion since Lexington was founded,” said Megan Moloney, vice president for marketing and communication. “We believe it’s important to foster the exchange of ideas from the candidates who seek to guide Lexington for the next four years and beyond.”
“We are excited to be partnering with our co-sponsors to bring information to the citizens of Lexington about our 2018 mayoral candidates,” said League of Women Voters President Tammy Fagley. “Part of the mission of the League is to help educate voters about the candidates. We hope all eligible voters will exercise their right to vote in November.”
Candidates Bastin and Gorton will respond to questions prepared by the sponsoring organizations and those submitted by the public prior to the forum. Questions may be submitted by emailing lexingtonlwv@gmail.com.
