Author to discuss new work in conversation at Transylvania Oct. 18
James Mustich’s newest book, “1,000 Books to Read Before You Die: A Life-Changing List,” took 14 years to complete.
“It’s a large book of 1,000 short essays on 1,000 titles that range from classics to literary fiction to memoir, biography, history, science, travel, cooking, kids’ books… really a compendium for a reading life,” Mustich recently told Tom Martin, host of WEKU’s Eastern Standard.
Mustich will visit Transylvania on Thursday, Oct. 18, for a free, public conversation. The talk, which is part of Transy’s Creative Intelligence Series and the New Frontiers season, will be at 4:30 p.m. in Carrick Theater.
“One of the things I’m going to be talking about at Transylvania is that we learn how to have the most important conversation of all through reading and that conversation is the ongoing one we have with ourselves,” Mustich said.
“For me, reading is a critical way for us to engage ourselves and engage the world and to come back to the works in terms of our active lives refreshed and a little more resourceful than we were before.”
