LEXINGTON, Ky.—Well-known peace activist Cindy Sheehan will give a talk titled “Myth America” on Saturday, September 12, at 7 p.m. in the Cowgill Center, room 102. A reception will follow. George Ella and Steve Lyon will perform music and poetry before Sheehan’s talk. The event is sponsored by Transylvania student group Progress, and it is free and open to the public, with limited seating.
Sheehan is a Gold Star Mother, having lost her son Casey in combat in Iraq. She has spent much of the last six years working against war. She has written six books, met with the president, challenged lawmakers over the Iraq War, made many appearances on national media and has been arrested and jailed for her actions against the Iraq War. Her most cited activities were demonstrations at Camp Casey outside of President George W. Bush’s ranch in Texas.
