Seamus Carey, Ph.D., will become Transylvania University’s 26th president when he assumes the office on July 1, 2014.
The dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut, succeeds R. Owen Williams who concludes four years of service as the university’s 25th president at the end of the 2014 academic year.
Carey brings to the historic Lexington, Kentucky, liberal arts campus a keen sense of academic mission. “I believe that the liberal arts are more relevant than ever. The complexity of issues that our young people will face from the economy to the environment to the evolving nature of personal relationships require thoughtfulness and insight that comes from a well-rounded and thorough liberal arts education,” he said.
