The exercise science and physical education program leads the way in promoting fitness and healthy lifestyles at Transylvania. All students gain knowledge about the role of fitness and health in their individual lives.
The diversity of the exercise science and physical education majors provides students with a broad range of post-graduate opportunities.
The exercise science major guides students through a curriculum that covers the scientific foundations of human movement to help them understand the complex relationships among physical activity, health, and wellness. This science-based program allows students the opportunity to apply concepts learned in class to practical experiences through internships at physical and occupational therapy practices, corporate wellness centers, and sports medicine clinics.
The teaching physical education major is a broad based program that prepares students to become effective teachers and/or coaches. After meeting all requirements in the major, each teaching physical education major receives a student teaching assignment as a culminating experience.
Physical education and exercise science majors at Transylvania benefit from the Clive M. Beck Athletic and Recreation Center, a 97,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility that accommodates varsity sports, intramurals, fitness activities, and casual recreation.
While the center was designed for all Transylvania students, it superbly fills the curricular needs of the physical education and exercise science program, offering three classrooms, an exercise physiology lab, a dance studio with sprung floor, and a training room with hydrotherapy facilities.
Transylvania University admits students regardless of age, race, color, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, veteran status, national origin, or any other classification protected by federal or state law or local ordinance.
