Classics is an interdisciplinary field of study. Both a minor and major in Classics can be earned at Transy. When you explore the world of the Greeks and Romans you are exploring history, literature, anthropology, economics, law, philosophy, medicine, religion, government and political theory, foreign languages, psychology, and sociology. The western cultural tradition is built on Greek and Roman foundations. At Transylvania University Classics courses will introduce you to interesting ways of investigating this wonderfully rich tradition.

The best way to understand any culture is through its own language. Transylvania offers courses in Latin from the beginning to advanced levels, and also offers courses in ancient Greek.

“Hardly any lawful price would seem to me too high for what I have gained by being made to learn Latin and Greek.” – C. S. Lewis

“To read the Latin and Greek authors in their original is a sublime luxury… I thank on my knees him who directed my early education for having in my possession this rich course of delight.”  -  Thomas Jefferson

In 2006 the mean verbal SAT score for all students was 503. The mean score of students studying Latin was 672.
