Kenan Lecture with Eric Klein

Location: Haggin Auditorium

Eric Klein, founder and CEO of the the disaster relief organization CAN-DO, will describe his unique approach to humanitarian aid, which includes hiring locals and employing U.S. military veterans. Klein has been featured on CNN, CNBC, People Magazine, Huffington Post, among other national and local media outlets. In 2008, Oprah Winfrey chose Klein as a contestant for her ABC prime time show, "Oprah's Big Give," a reality program that challenged contestants to give away money in unique ways and become one of America's greatest unknown philanthropists. The band is traveling coast-to-coast on its first headlining tour since being crowned champion of Season 4 of NBC’s "The Sing-Off" in December. Tickets will be available to the general public beginning Sept. 15. The performance is free, but tickets are required and must be picked up at the information desk in the lobby of the William T. Photographer Maxine Payne’s photographic installation tells two stories. First, the Depression-era history of Jim and Mancy Massengill, who built a homemade camera and trailer so they could travel the state from 1937 to 1941 making and selling pictures, three for a dime. Inspired Payne presents a second narrative in her exhibition: multiple stories from contemporary rural women living on the U.S./Mexican border or in Vietnam, Africa, and Arkansas. Institute 193, a Lexington gallery, will exhibit the original Massengill family photographs. Click for details
