Inspired by the music and writing of the Southern Gothic movement, Kring says of his work, "I prefer using muted earth tones in my work because it makes the art appear much more natural and weathered. I frequently work
metaphorically, narratively, and autobiographically. Different styles of music, literature, history, and the art works of artists such as Robert Arneson, Edward Kienholz, Robert Rauschenberg, and Lucian Freud
inform me widely."

Julie is majoring in art with a minor in psychology. During the summer, she will return to Governor’s School for the Arts as Head Residence Advisor.
Her work at Transylvania has consisted of a focus in drawing and painting. Her large-scale paintings have won Excellence in Painting as well as the Fine Arts Purchase Awards. Next year, she plans to begin work to earn her Master’s in Art Therapy.
