As a political science major, you will learn about predicting policy choices, determining political effectiveness, and influencing policy selection. Through internships, individually designed tutorials, and individual research, you may specialize in your area of interest. If you qualify and are selected for the Kentucky Legislative Intern Program, you will work with the state lawmakers during sessions of the Kentucky General Assembly.

You may also gain useful experience by serving in the Student Government Association or belonging to such groups as the Debate Team or one of Transylvania's political interest groups.
If you are interested in a career in government, law, business, or teaching, a degree in political science is a good choice, but the skills developed in the major will be useful no matter which career you choose. Many of our graduates enter law school or pursue advanced degrees in political science, public administration, or business administration. Others become government researchers, professors, and urban or regional planners. For most faculty positions in colleges and universities and many top research and administrative jobs, a Ph.D. is required.
