Education

Transylvania's education program offers a strong academic background and helps develop the skills and attitudes essential to successful teaching. Courses cover classroom management, human development, and education fundamentals. As an education major, you will be required to observe in classrooms as well as teach in area schools to gain practical experience.

Student TeacherIf you wish to seek an education degree, you must be admitted to the Teacher Education Program. Selection is based on apparent commitment to the profession; proficiency in human relations and oral and written communication; apparent concern for the best possible education for all youth; and understanding of the skills, responsibilities, and stress involved in teaching. You must have a minimum score of 21 on the ACT or 990 on the SAT and maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA (scale of 4).

As an education major, you may join the Kentucky Education Association Student Programs (KEASP). This organization strives for a better understanding of the education profession by sponsoring lectures and lending support to local schools.


Some of the positions held by our education graduates:

Graduates of this program are involved in the profession in various capacities. They are teachers, administrators, and coaches in primary, middle, and secondary schools. Some have completed a graduate degree and are involved in education at the college level. Others work in state education departments.
