Professor Anderson has led the Transylvania Choir on numerous domestic tours, including a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in Avery Fisher Hall in New York City, and six international tours of Europe.
Professor Gary L. Anderson is the long-time director of the Transylvania Choir. He has led the choir on numerous domestic tours, including a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in Avery Fisher Hall in New York City, and six international tours of Europe. Anderson regularly directs choir and solo performances on campus, and he has been named a Bingham Fellow for Excellence in Teaching for his work in the classroom and on the concert stage.
In addition to his work at Transylvania, Anderson is an active guest conductor and clinician. He is the founding conductor and musical director of the Lexington Chamber Chorale and director of music at Second Presbyterian Church in Lexington.
Anderson is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, for which he was president of the Kentucky Chapter for two terms. During his tenure as president he received the Robert Barr Award for excellence in the choral art and support for the profession.
He is past president of the Kentucky Association of College Music Departments and holds memberships in the International Federation for Choral Music, Music Educators National Conference and the Presbyterian Association of Musicians. He has served on the boards of the Lexington Arts and Cultural Council and the Youth Music Society of Central Kentucky.
