In order to promote the health of students, faculty, staff, and visitors, Transylvania University became a tobacco free campus on August 1, 2010. The tobacco free policy supports the university's wellness initiative to enhance the quality of life for the campus community by identifying strategies and practices that will encourage individuals to make healthy living decisions in a supportive organizational environment. Evidence proves that tobacco use and second-hand smoke are significant health hazards.
The policy prohibits the use of smoking tobacco through a cigarette, cigar, pipe, or other device and the use of chewing or smokeless tobacco in all Transylvania buildings, on campus grounds (with the exception of one designated smoking area on the residential side of campus), and vehicles on campus property. The policy applies to all members of the Transylvania community and visitors to campus.
