Students often wonder if counseling would be helpful to them, or if their problem is “severe” enough to get professional help, or if they even have the time and energy to engage in counseling. Typically, students seek counseling for a variety of reasons, including a recent stressor or a long-standing problem that is interfering with some aspect of their life, or for a chance to prevent problems, or even as an opportunity for self-growth and exploration. Individual counseling is an opportunity to talk with a counselor about anything you choose and to work on particular issues which the two of you have defined.
In this vein, Transylvania provides on-campus counseling services. Services include individual and couples’ counseling and referrals to other types of mental health services. Services are confidential and are not a part of a student’s academic record. Sessions typically last 50 minutes and may occur weekly, bimonthly, or as arranged by you and your counselor. Scheduling an appointment ahead of time is recommended, to ensure that a counselor is available to see you (and not with another student) when you arrive
